The Barfield 2471F megohmmeter is designed to check the insulation breakdown in a variety of applications requiring a high voltage but low current. The 2471F megohmmeter provides the operator with a simple, rugged, portable analog unit with Selectable test voltages: 45, 100, 200 and 500 VDC. The range of test voltages allows it to quickly test and pinpoint insulation breakdown over a range of 0.5 to 1000M. The tester is battery operated, with no warm-up time necessary allowing completely portable, fast, reliable checks of antenna bonding, shielding, static wicks, ground straps etc.
Current limiting circuitry provides safe, ABSOLUTELY SHOCK-PROOF operation. The tester is completely user safe even on the 500 volt range since the maximum allowable test currents are well below human sensitivities. The 2471F is also protected from damage caused by inadvertent connection of the probes across an energized circuit. AC or DC voltages up to 300 volts can be safely applied.
A single four inch meter scale, increasing from zero at the left to infinity at the right, is incriminated from .5 to 1,000 megohms. A push-button on the high potential test probe provides for conveniently activating the instrument and allows the technician access to tight testing areas without fear of arching. Automatic shut-off is accomplished by simply removing the leads. Flashlight type batteries are used, and a self-contained battery test is incorporated. Solid state circuitry provides the means for size reduction, high sensitivity and dependability. The meter is a ruggedized taut-band suspension type which eliminates the need for pivots and jewels. The high potential probe is shield-guarded so the stray leakage through lead insulation will not affect the measurement accuracy. For storage, a leatherette case is provided at no additional charge.
The 2471F is a very useful, general purpose tester found in many shops, both large and small.
